NOW IS THE TIME. THIS IS THE PLACE. YOU ARE THE ONE.

Welcome, colleagues.

We have now obviously entered the global age. No longer are we merely inhabitants of one country, one region, or one continent. We are all members of one human family, living on one planet, sharing one environment -- this is the essential existential fact of our present social, economic, cultural and political existence.

Equally obvious is the fact that our human institutions have not kept pace with the new world created by the revolutionary advances in transportation, communications, and human self-awareness. As our real world charges through the 21st century, our institutions linger in the world of the 19th century. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the field of education.

Most schools around the planet are preparing their students for a world that no longer exists. They are educating students for the past -- what a tragic reality.

These pages will be dedicated to helping educators aim toward education for the real world. We have no choice. We cannot pretend to be blind. Global issues, global opportunities and our common global future lie ahead. We can embrace reality and educate for a better future -- or we can blindfold ourselves and risk crashing against the unyielding reality.

Our students have a right to become enlightened, globally aware citizens of the new world in which they already live. What an honor it is to deliver to them the global education that is their birthright.

This blog will also be your forum. We reach to educators all around the world. Give us your views. Enrich us with your vision. Help us reflect on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Welcome....

  1. As a student, I am glad that it is being recognized that the youth has a right to become enlightened. I know that it is a hope for myself, and for many of my peers, that we may become globally aware as citizens today. We cannot wait any longer. It is time that global education is adopted by all. It is sad to think that many of us are completely disconnected. We are stuck in our own worlds unaware of the real issues of today. This blog is a great example that realization is setting in. For this we, as students and world citizens, are greatly appreciative. I am glad that this is the place. It cannot be better said than that the time is now and that we are the ones.

  2. In response to this blog, I would like to say thank you to Mr. Lamas, a part of those few who want to take extreme force on this world of one unity. It is those people who actually want to help the community today, and I gain honor for those who have that strength and hope. I, as a student in high school, do think about those teachers who do not really think about our futures as leaders. Teachers nowadays in my school only teach the norm: read, learn, and do questions, and it is a constant routine. I personally get drifted away with this kind of teaching and learning because it is boring and uncreative. We need teachers that can make us students feel, think, and plant in our heads that we are going to change the future. To begin that process, it needs to start with teaching us that thought of us becoming global leaders. With that normal way of teaching, it just takes us directly to the other direction. I am glad that we have a teacher like Mr. Lamas to show us what the world is made out of and what us future leaders can do about it.

Let us begin our global lesson...

  3. in response to this blog, i feel that pretty much everything we will expect to see and must face is summarized in this blog. its very good for mr. lamas to be teaching s about global perspective; making us aware and acknowledging our surrounding so that we will always be prepared for the real world. this blog welcomes readers of global education into this global perspective of learning that is unlike any other. we will learn about the past, present, and future. this blog will help many people accomplish this in their lives and minds.

  4. Reffering to this blog, I feel that being a part of this global studies academy is an accomplishment because of the education I and others recieve from it and what I enjoy of this blog that Mr.Lamas has created is that he is helping us understand the real world around us that we will one day have to face on our own without the help of our educators. Being prepared for what is coming is an important thing in life I have come to realize. And I acknowledge that this real world will be in our hands soon but why should we let the world go down hill? We would have to be the ones to fix it later but this is what is happening apparantly and now we will make sure to make a difference and bring out the correct actions the people of this word can make.

  5. I am very glad that people in this age and time are taking a stand for students' education. I was suprised that this academy would take so much responsibility in teaching students "global education". A lot of teachers now just make their students read something and have them write a response to it. This philosophy of teaching is very limited, especially when compared to a philosophy of global education.

  6. Reading and rereading this blog i am glad to say that i am happy about the understading of those that believe in the youth of today. This belief in teaching students for the future and not the past is a way that all adults should view education as and not only a few beacause this way of teaching students will lead to a better future for the world because students will not only understand the ways things are happeneing around them but the way things are happening around others around the world.

  7. In response to this blog, as a student I believe that what Mr. Lamas is saying is completely true. Many people still do not realize what is going on now, on this Earth. Especially when it comes to education. If the children are the future, they have to be aware of what is going on in order for them to change this and fix it. Teacher still teach the requirements as a school but do not go out of the box to help students learn more then just what they have to. I do agree that teachers are teaching students things that already exist and aren’t preparing them for the future. This is why I thank you Mr. Lamas for helping us as adults that you think we are, know what is going on around the world and help us become Global Leaders.

  8. After reading this blog, as a student I am blithesome that the world is beginning to recognize that students do have a right to be informed on what is proceeding with today’s Global Issues. I am also happy to hear that there are still teachers like you Mr. Lamas who make students want to listen, want to learn, and make us want to be the leaders of tomorrow. Teachers like you end up having students who become successful not only monetarily, successful in the sense that we make a difference in the world. All educators should view teaching as not busy work but actually teaching to learn and not only teaching about the past but teaching for the past, present and future.

  9. To my opinion this class is just more than a class.I am glad this isn't the traditional history class. Here we are not just learning from the past and historical facts. We are learning how to become global leaders and start looking towards the future. Many of us at our age think its to early to start thinking what we want to do with our lives. we are to dependent on others to make this a better place. All of us know what we should do, but are constantly ignoring the fact that its time to make a change. students, outside cambridge are probably not nodicing the reality, the need to start gaining more knowledge than just read, write and learn facts. They're living in their own little box creating their own ideas. believing their own lies. No. i agree we all need to use more creativity. we cant all become followers of other peoples ideas we need to creat our own. it so sad and ignorant that people dont care. It is an honor to be receiving this kind of knowledge. I feel like i have a better knowing than those who believe that theirs nothing to do. nothing to do? Their is everything to do. Lots to do. Why dont we think we need to give our next generation a better future? or even the next? even ourselfs. We need to become aware of todays and tomorrow issues. Not letting them fall behind and ignore it. they will soon become harder to solve.

  10. Education has always been very important, especially now that we are changing the world for the better. Not only does the world struggle to go forward in the education planted on the students, but also we still have issues in trying to bring the youth into the schools to gain knowledge for the future. The world needs to grow and it is not possible if there is no one to give the material needed to progress. Our future is in the hands of the youth, if not given the mentality needed to make things right, then we will never reach our potential. Gladly, there are people working on this. When the world comes together in hope for a change in the society we live in now, then it is when we can say that our world is changing to a positive future.

  11. As I read this blog, I was inspired once again by the concept of global education. Today, numerous individuals remain detached from society and many of the events that are currently happening in our world. How could this be? In some parts of the world, this may be the cause of lack of education and resources to obtain knowledge. However, in more fortunate places where resources are available and the facts are in front of us, the cause is the lack of interest. Humans tend not to realize how imperative something is until it directly affects them. This is why when we implement the concept of globalization to educators we are taking a big step. We have to be globally aware of the issues in our world and take initiative to fix them. If we don’t start thinking of our future that what will await for our future generations. I agree with the idea that educators should facilitate this global mentality by not just focusing on the past facts, instead informing the youth on our current global issues and ways to repair them. If we continue to have skillful educators like Mr. Lamas promoting this outlook on life, then we are hopeful to raise empowered global leaders that will make a difference in our future.

  12. As a student in this globalized world, I am very pleased to say that I have the pleasure to be taught by a man who will lead us to a more global education. I thank him for creating this blog, because with this blog he will be able to reach out to other students and teachers around the world and hopefully increase the awarness that we must no longer prepare our students for the past but arm them with the tools to deal with the many issues which we face daily. With the growing power of communication and technology we will hopefulyl induce teachers around the world to realize that our present day studetns are the future of this world and that they must be educated to not only suceed personally but to imrove our current global condition, because there is not much time left and we will not get a second chance.

  13. Education now in days have been limited who can we blame for this the economy, religion, or politics. As students around the world are being educated a very high percent kids are going to grow working low paying jobs while kids in japan are learning with the best money can offer and they end up getting high paying jobs. Since every government is unbalance they now have to make a choice in how much they going to spend on education so they can of a higher chance of devolping future leaders of socity

  14. I wholeheartedly agree with what Mr.lamas has said there are many children in this world who are lacking in an adequate global education. After reading this post I found myself very thankful for the opportunity that Cambridge has given us.My classmates and i are some of the lucky few who have the ability and intelligence to go beyond being sheep and truly becoming empowered global citizens.I hope that one day soon teachers and schools will become enlightened and begin to provide the boon of a global education instead of the disservice they are giving today.

  15. After reading this blog entry I was left wondering how exactly are schools teaching students for a world that no longer exists. To me this is a bold statement and the fact that it was not explained or backed up by any type of evidence creates an uncertainty of what is actually being discused or what the real issue really is. Also, schools were created to teach the basics that will prepare a student to excel in whatever he or she chooses to. To me it is hard to believe schools to function above this simple purpose because it is already struggling to give adequate education to students. Another thing is that I think we have yet to reach this "Global Age" you spoke of. The reason for this is that even though I can go to anyplace in the world, when i get there it will be like a whole new world. The people and its culture, the language, and the problems they face will be different. I can try to understand them but without growing up the way they did, I will lack the experience needed to truely call them my "family." Such differences can be noticed in such a small region like South Florida. For example, I live in a suburban area and more or less understand what happens but once I head a bit more Sout I reach homestead and its completly different from what I know because its more rural and have the houses spread apart and huge farm lands. As long as such simple or even more complex differences like ethnecity or religeon countinue to exist then it would be hard to defend the idea that we have reached this "Global Age". Other than that, it was interesting to read and gives some good reasons to improve global education. Please pardon my grammar and spelling.

  16. As a future leader of society, I see this blog as a way for us to address this current issue of Global Education. We live in one planet facing different issues in an environment. We also need to see that children are lacking this education which they need for them to be something in this world. There are probably millions of people in this world that wish to have such knowledge and understanding of life the way we are being taught in our classes. This is one of the most struggling issues that we face to this day and it needs to be addressed, not in 30 years or 40, but now. I hope to be one of the many global leaders of society in attempts to bring everybody the education and prosperity that they deserve and not in such hardships that they face as I speak. This blog has shown me a clear message, we must act now to give everyone the education they deserve and need.

  17. Having the opportunity to be a part of the Cambridge global academy gives us a higher advantage than most children in the world. The key word here is "Global". Not only here, in the stereotypical high schools of America, are they only teaching inside the box (i.e. American History, World history, etc.), but all over planet students are being taught the same things over and over, instead of being taught about current issues. Don't get me wrong, one has to know their past in order to have a future, but honestly will they remember it in even two years? Global warming, poverty, genocide - things that happening right now, things that could diminish our species…yet things a regular student hardly over hears from their television set. That just might be why Mr.Lamas' words are so significant, because they are an insight in the reality of the world in which we live in. How prepared our generation is for the future will determine so many things, and if we don’t act now, then by that time it will be far too late. This class is needed all throughout the world, because it just might be what makes us, or breaks us.

  19. I recognize and even admire the points you make here, though I must bring up the fact that teachers aren't the only people involved in education.
Sure, you can say teachers don't teach what they should, and that might be true.
Sure, you can say students don't actually learn, and that might be true.
But both things can be easily remedied if you have more proactive parents to encourage both students and teachers to be better at what they do.
As I've been rather stuck up in my earlier childhood, I hate to see anyone other than myself use the term global just because I see it more tacky that otherwise, though I do applaud your whole idea here, it's definately something worth going for, though it should be noted that it's, like you've probably pointed out sometime in your life time, more complicated than teaching it.
People are who they are, parents help people become what they are. Teachers help us realize what we are. The people around us make us choose whether we want to be it or not.
That above is only partially correct, and in all fairness it's as correct as I can get, but it more or less shows you that it's much more an issue than what you realize it is.
Edit: do instead of don't. >.<

  20. In response to reading this blog I too beleive we have to let go of the past ways of teaching. I beleive students should be taught from a young age to be more responsible in school work. Also, I beleive that as we are learning at this age to be challenged with homework that children younger should be taught the same way. We as a country should unite to break through the wall and teach children at a young age how they can better their society and change the world to become a better place for future generations to come. I think their should not be a regular class, all classes should be advanced and challenging. This will create a generation of genius men and women who can change the world. Now that I have showed my opinion I want to see what other people around the world stand on this subject
